NEMA Publishes Motors and Generators Standards

NEMA MG 2-2014 gives recommendations for the selection, installation, and use of rotating electric machines as it applies to the practical safeguarding of persons and property.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published three standards in its MG series:

  • NEMA MG 2-2014 Safety Standard for Construction and Guide for Selection, Installation and Use of Electric Motors and Generators
  • NEMA MG 3-1974 (R1995, R2000, R2006, R2012) Sound Level Prediction for Installed Rotating Electrical Machines
  • NEMA MG 10-2013 Energy Management Guide for Selection and Use of Fixed Frequency Medium AC Squirrel-Cage Polyphase Induction Motors

NEMA MG 2-2014 gives recommendations for the selection, installation, and use of rotating electric machines as it applies to the practical safeguarding of persons and property. It may be downloaded at no cost or purchased in hardcopy for $91 on the NEMA website.

NEMA MG 3-1974 (R1995, R2000, R2006, R2012) delivers a method for estimating sound pressure levels of installed rotating electrical machines. It may be downloaded at no cost or purchased in hardcopy for $54 on the NEMA website.

NEMA MG 10-2013 conveys practical information concerning proper selection and application of polyphase induction and synchronous motors, including installation, operation, and maintenance. It may be downloaded at no cost or purchased in hardcopy for $77 on the NEMA website.
