Product Spotlight: Focus on Protective Gear

May 16, 2013
This month, EC&M magazine spotlights protective gear from Pyramex and Carhartt, National Safety Apparel, Honeywell Safety Products, and Workrite Uniform Co.

Safety eyewear

Pyramex Safety Products, LLC and Carhartt recently partnered to
launch Carhartt Safety Eyewear, a line of products that will initially feature seven distinct styles named after some of North America’s great cities and towns. According to the companies, this eyewear will stand up to the harshest demands of today’s workforce in the field. Carhartt Safety Eyewear will be available beginning in the second quarter of 2013 through Pyramex’s network of distributors, Carhartt retailers across North America, and online.

Flash-/fire-resistance garments

A spin on the popular Explorer Series of parkas, jackets, and bib overalls (released in the fall of 2012), new outerwear
UL-certified to the NFPA 2112 standard for flash/fire resistance is now available. The flash fire version features a water repellent UltraSoft duck outer shell with a new specialized quilted liner. According to the company, this combination of materials is the first in the industry to meet the qualifications for UL 2112 certification. All garments pass the rigorous flash fire test while offering a high arc flash rating (47 cal/cm² - HRC 4). These garments must be able to defend against both arc flash and a sudden, rapidly spreading burst of flames caused by the ignition of a flammable substance, such as combustible gas, fumes, or dust.

Safety glasses

Two new styles of protective eyewear, Conspire and Relentless, feature the
exclusive new North Signature Fit profile, which, according to the company, is designed to comfortably fit at least 85% of wearers right out of the box without the need for advanced adjustments. The products’ lightweight, full-wrap design includes an eight-base, single front with dual lenses plus a shaped nosepiece and flexible temples. Conspire provides 99.9% ultraviolet protection and is certified to meet both the ANSI Z87.1+ standard for high-impact protection and the CSA Z94.3 standards. Relentless eyewear provides 99.9% ultraviolet protection and is certified to the requirements of the ANSI Z87.1-2010 and CSA Z94.3 standards.

NFPA 2112 certified FR garments

A wide variety of the company’s FR garments is now certified to the NFPA 2112 standard and accompanied by a visible
external label, making it the first FR garment provider in the industry to do so, according to the company. It is more common for FR fabrics to be NFPA 2112 certified, but the whole garment is certified in this case. An extra external label being added to certified garments allows customers to be sure their employees are wearing NFPA 2112-certified garments with a quick visual confirmation (there is also the required internal label on each certified garment).
