Rather than featuring one product per day, Editor-in-Chief Mike Eby is now scouring through the hundreds of product submissions we receive each month to bring you what he considers the most noteworthy offerings. If you have a product you’d like Mike to consider for his weekly product pick, please email a press release along with a high-resolution photo to [email protected]. Now on to Mike’s first product review:

    Digital tool control platform

I got a sneak peek of Milwaukee Tool’s ONE-KEY back in June when I attended the company’s 2015 New Product Symposium. Everyone at Milwaukee was super enthusiastic about the capabilities of this new platform and couldn’t wait to show it off.

Basically, ONE KEY integrates tool electronics with a custom-built cloud based program. Inventory Management, which launches this September, is the first component available through the web and mobile app, creating a central place for users to manage all of their tools and equipment across their network of jobs and operators. This free-to-use platform allows companies to keep detailed records of each tool (even non-Milwaukee brands), so they can build a budget and manage their annual spend on equipment. Users are also able to assign locations or specific owners to each asset, providing accountability, and enabling information-sharing between the field and back-office. As a cloud based solution, updates and edits will be synchronized in real-time throughout all levels of an organization.

I can see some real value with the reporting and inventory modules when it comes to jobsite efficiency and productivity. On a personal level, I was intrigued by the tool control module that allows you to customize the settings on your own drills and drivers. This puts a lot of control in the user’s hands, as they can customize the tool to fit their specific needs. The company plans to offer additional components to ONE KEY in October 2015 and January 2016.
