At a press event held in mid-March at its headquarters in Carrollton, Ga., Southwire Co. announced plans to launch what it is calling a new generation in wire management solutions. Demonstrating the new product to a handful of industry trade press editors and offering testimonials/feedback by electrical contractors and distributors who have tested it in the field, Southwire executives and product managers unveiled the new SIMpull CoilPAK Wire Package addition to its SIMpull Circuit Management System, which will be available April 1.

According to Stuart Thorn, president and CEO, this product will forever change the way electrical contractors plan for and install branch circuit wiring, potentially eliminating the need for wire spools altogether. He even went so far as to characterize this launch as truly "revolutionary," maintaining that this packaging innovation could do for Southwire what iPod did for Apple or flip top cans did for Coca-Cola.

The CoilPAK Wire Package is a prepackaged solution that helps contractors improve job-site productivity and safety while offering a highly effective way to manage installation and labor costs. Available with both solid and stranded cable options, the product includes the company’s patented NoLube SIM Technology circuit-sized wire coiled using a proprietary winding process. Weighing in at less than 50 lb each, the tote is molded with a handle that makes it easily portable on the job site. The package, which offers wire in sizes and lengths from 10 gauge (up to 1,250 ft), 12 gauge (up to 2,000 ft), and 14 gauge (up to 2,500 ft), can stand upright when in a resting position and lay flat or stacked when pulling wire from the package, eliminating the hassle of tangled wires and managing multiple individual wire reels. By simplifying material handling and management, the company maintains this product can help contractors significantly improve margins.

According to Norman Adkins, president of Southwire’s Electrical Division, when used along with the company's SIMpull WireBARREL wire drum, primarily used for homerun type installations, and the MAXIS Bending Table, this product eliminates steps in the process and helps enhance installer performance significantly. Helping contractors beat their circuit branch wiring budgets by eliminating wasted time caused by having to handle numerous wire spools on a job site, Adkins says the SIMpull Circuit Management System offers unprecedented control of branch circuit wiring jobs, reducing installation time, cutting waste, and eliminating steps created by traditional wire wagons and individual reels.
