Product Spotlight: Focus on Tools

Nov. 12, 2012
This month, EC&M magazine spotlights tools from Ideal Industries, Thomas & Betts, DeWalt, and Milwaukee Electric Tool
Cable compression hand tools

The Linear X1 and X3 compression hand tools feature a zinc-coated, die-cast body and a handle that includes a double-dipped textured cushion grip with a shorter spread distance in the open position for more comfortable compression. One-handed operation is possible with all compatible connectors, while a hinged hasp keeps the tool in a compact closed position when not in use. The X1 model is factory calibrated and set to compress industry standard 21-mm F compression connectors. The X3 features an adjustable post that can be raised or lowered to accommodate different sizes and types of F/BNC/RCA compression connectors. No separate or loose adapters are required for BNC or RCA connectors.

Connector installation tool

The Blackburn Hydraulic PowerTap System is a battery-powered wedge-tap connector installation tool that eliminates the need for a powder-actuated, fire-on style tool. Available with two head sizes, the tool features a quick-connect coupler, a positive-stop valve that precisely matches the system’s output pressure to that of the wedge-tap connector, and an audible bypass signal that indicates when optimum pressure is achieved. To release the tool, users simply depress the release lever to retract the tool head assembly from the connection; then, remove the power unit from the tool head assembly by depressing the release lever on the quick-connect coupler.
