When installing disconnecting means for multi-wire branch circuits in temporary installations, the disconnecting means must disconnect all ungrounded conductors at the power outlet or panelboard where the branch circuit originates. The power outlet may be __________.

  1. an enclosed assembly that may include circuit breakers
  2. an enclosed assembly that may include fuseholders
  3. an enclosed assembly that may include fused switches
  4. all of the above

Answer: D

We may not often use the term "power outlet" in design and installation, but some of you may associate this term with receptacle outlets. However, the term "power outlet," as defined by the NEC, includes more than just receptacle outlets.

As noted in Art. 100, the term power outlet is defined as follows: "An enclosed assembly that may include receptacles, circuit breakers, fuseholders, fused switches, buses, and watt-hour meter mounting means; intended to supply and control power to mobile homes, recreational vehicles, park trailers, or boats or to serve as a means for distributing power required to operate mobile or temporarily installed equipment."
