Failure to Label Electrical Panels Among Postal Service OSHA Citations

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for safety hazards after receiving a complaint of unsafe working conditions at an Austin, Texas, facility.

An OSHA investigation after an industrial truck accident included a citation for failing to label electrical panels and breakers, according to a news release on OSHA’s website. An employee of the USPS facility was injured after being ejected from a powered industrial truck. OSHA also cited the USPS for failing to ensure powered industrial truck operators obeyed traffic regulations, and for exposing employees to trip hazards.

Proposed penalties total $224,585 and USPS has 15 business days to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
