Mike Greenawalt, CEO of electrical contractor Rosendin, was selected for the 2022 U.S. National Safety Council (NSC) CEOs Who “Get It” Award for demonstrating a personal commitment to worker safety and health. Safety is a core value for Rosendin as the company dedicates more than three million work hours a year toward steady efforts to eliminate risk with advanced and innovative programs on strategic planning, emergency preparedness, training, competency, and more.

“At Rosendin, our employees are our most valuable asset, and safety is non-negotiable,” Greenawalt said. “It goes into every business decision we make and reinforced on every job site with strict safety protocols and new tools to protect and empower workers. I am grateful for this honor and humbled to be recognized among some of the most respected executives in the country who value the physical and mental health of every individual on their team.”

Greenawalt started his career as an apprentice, where he witnessed a co-worker suffer a life-changing injury due to unsafe practices. Since then, he has committed over four decades to implementing safety protocols, including corporate safety policies, a stop work card, a “5Why” accident investigation form, and a pre-task planning policy to identify potential hazards. Rosendin also introduced a Craft Empowerment Program to ensure every craft worker has an equal voice to provide timely feedback to improve field operations.

"When the pandemic began, Mike worked closely with our corporate safety team to address a broad range of health concerns our employees were facing, including physical and mental health issues,” said Marty Rouse, Rosendin vice president of safety. “Today, Rosendin provides training and support for their complete individual safety, which includes diversity, equity, and inclusiveness on the job.“

Judges with the NSC selected Greenawalt and eight other honorees for building a safety strategy using risk reduction, performance measurement, safety management solutions, and employee engagement. Winners were announced in the February 2022 issue of Safety + Health magazine and also include:
