2021 Top 40 Electrical Design Firm Projects in the Spotlight

June 4, 2021
This year's Top 40 firms share their most notable electrical projects from 2020.

There’s no denying that COVID-19 was a gamechanger in 2020. As with almost any industry that comes to mind, for EC&M’s 2021 Top 40 Electrical Design firms (whose rankings are based on the previous year’s revenue numbers), that statement certainly proved true.

With 2020 now in the books, the group posted a somewhat surprising collective revenue gain, coming in at $2.301 billion — 4.8% higher than last year’s $2.195 billion (based on 2019 numbers). Despite this positive trend, nearly half of the firms responding to our annual survey reported revenue declines from 2019. Similarly, only 30% described 2020’s business climate as “strong,” compared with 74% last year. Although the ultimate ravages of the pandemic are still untallied, with 2020 now in the rearview mirror, most of this year’s top electrical design firms see an optimistic path forward filled with new opportunities and an even more streamlined workflow.

For details on how these firms performed as well as comprehensive analysis on the most important factors affecting their business this year, look for EC&M’s 2021 Top 40 Electrical Design Firms Special Report, coming soon to our website.
