IEC Georgia Begins First- and Second-Year Apprenticeship Classes

IEC Georgia began 1st-year and 2nd-year Apprenticeship classes in Columbus, Georgia, on Nov. 14.  This is the first year having classes at IEC’s newest training location, the Elks Lodge 111 in Columbus.

Classes started with a total of 40 students from eight IEC contractor members, enrolled in either the first- or second-year apprenticeship program.  With news of the labor shortage of skilled workers, IEC members are preparing by enrolling new talent into IEC’s Apprenticeship program.  They understand the value an IEC trained journeyman brings to their organization.

The IEC instructor for the first year class is Jeremy Head, and second year instructor is Brian Gardner.  These instructors currently hold active positions in the electrical industry, and bring their industry experience into the classroom.  For example, Jeremy Head brings 18 years of experience and is also an electrical inspector.  As the 1^st year instructor, he is the first stop and prepares students with the extra advantage of an inspector’s point of view.  Head said, “I get to instruct them the right way from the beginning, and avoid learning bad information.” 

Whether these IEC students are first year or second year, they are all on a positive career path in the electrical industry; and are positioning themselves to be a major asset to any contractor.
