Students from Lake-Sumter State College and the University of Central Florida completed their Relay Technician internship with Power Grid Engineering (PGE) earlier this month. The PGE Field Services internship is designed to provide fundamental training to students as well as firsthand experience to prepare them for the field.

“I think the program went very well. We learned through the first process how to make it better and make our internships a lot more valuable,” said Gordon Walker, Field Services Supervisor. “We want to develop ourselves as a world-class organization and with this program we have the opportunity to develop word-class technicians in-house.”

This fundamental technical training includes topics such as power transformers, transformers, relays and their different functions. Students are put through an intense two-week training course and then are assigned to lead technicians in the field to shadow at an active site.

Power Grid Engineering, LLC, ranked among Florida’s fastest growing companies and selected as one of the top companies to work for by the Orlando Business Journal, specializes in Field Services, engineering design and consultation for the power systems industry. Its corporate headquarters are located in Central Florida with regional offices in Birmingham, Alabama, El Dorado, Kansas and Raleigh, North Carolina, each equipped with the most current industry resources available to ensure high-quality customer service.
