How well do you know the Code? Think you can spot violations the original installer either ignored or couldn't identify? Here's your chance to moonlight as an electrical inspector and second-guess someone else's work from the safety of your living room or office. It's your turn to identify the violation.

This photo shows threaded rigid metal conduit (RMC) that was installed in a wet location (i.e., on a roof). As you can see, these two pieces of conduit were joined together with a compression coupling.
While the compression coupling itself might be listed for use in a wet location, when installed on the threaded end of the RMC it is probably not very watertight. This would be a Code violation unless the connector was specifically listed for this purpose.
Section 344.42(A) requires threadless couplings and connectors to be made tight when used with conduit. Where buried in masonry or concrete, they shall be the concrete-tight type. Where installed in wet locations, they shall comply with the requirements of 314.15. Threadless couplings and connectors shall not be used on threaded conduit ends unless listed for the purpose.
