The telephone mounted on the wall is too close to the pool. The cord on the handset is long enough to reach the water. Can you imagine what might happen if you were soaking wet in the water while holding the phone handset in your hands while making or receiving a call? Section 680.22(D) requires outlets for communication circuits, fire alarm circuits, signaling circuits, and other types of outlets to be located at least 10 ft from the inside wall of the pool, measured as the shortest path a supply cord would follow without passing through a floor, wall, ceiling, window, or doorway. This telephone is only an arm’s length away from the pool. The perimeter luminaires and exit sign seem to comply with the minimum spacing requirements in Sec. 680.22(B).
