What’s Wrong Here? Hint: This Crushed My Dreams.
Hint: This crushed my dreams.
A close look at the liquidtight flexible nonmetallic conduit (LFNC) reveals it is twisted and partially crushed where it enters the receptacle box. I’m guessing this happened because the installer made the bend too sharp. Section 356.24 mandates that bends in LFNC be made so the conduit is not damaged, and the internal diameter of the conduit is not reduced. Sharp bends in raceways can make it difficult or impossible to install or remove wires. It may even result in wires being damaged during the installation process. Bends in LFNC must comply with the dimensions in Table 2, Chapter 9 from the “Other Bends” column. For ½-in. LFNC, the radius of the curve to the centerline of the bend must not be less than 4 in. This bend was made way too tight, resulting in the distortion of the conduit.
