What’s Wrong Here? Hint: Wet Location Woes
Hint: Wet location woes
I found this outdoor receptacle on a building near an oceanside marina. The weather has really taken a toll on this equipment.
The lack of a cover for this receptacle is a violation of Sec. 406.6. I don’t know what type of cover, if any, was originally installed here, but for 15A and 20A, 125V and 250V receptacles installed in wet locations, an enclosure that is weatherproof with an attachment plug inserted or removed must be installed as specified in Sec. 406.9(B)(1).
That same Code section also requires the use of receptacles that are listed and identified as weather resistant (WR) type when installed in wet locations. The face of the receptacle is severely cracked and broken apart elevating the danger of an already dangerous situation. Damaged parts that adversely affect the safe operation or mechanical strength of equipment are a violation of Sec. 110.12(B).
Lastly, the missing knockout seal on the bottom of the box violates Sec. 110.12(A).
