What’s Wrong Here? Hint: Loose as a Goose

Think you know how this installation violates the NEC?

Hint: Loose as a goose.

Typically, the phrase “loose as a goose” means relaxed, calm, or not stressed or tense. In this case I’m using it to describe the raceway fitting for the LFNC. This PVC to LFNC transition fitting is so loose that the LFNC raceway fell out! This makes me feel anything but loose as a goose!

Section 300.12 requires raceways to be continuous between cabinets, boxes, conduit bodies, other enclosures, fittings, and outlets. Water can now get into the LFNC raceway and wreak damage to the conductors and raceway when it freezes and expands in the winter. Section 300.11(A) requires raceways to be securely fastened in place. I’m not so sure the LFNC complies with that requirement either. I did not measure the length of LFNC but it does not appear to be greater than 6 feet, so aside from it being separated from the transition fitting, the other securing and supporting of it seems to comply with Sec. 356.30.
