After Kyler Mealey graduated from high school, a family friend who worked as an apprenticeship director introduced him to the electrical industry. He shared stories about the projects he had worked on throughout his career, and hearing about the variety of work and opportunities captured his attention.

“It quickly became something I could see myself pursuing as a long-term career,” he said.

He began his formal training in the electrical field through an apprenticeship program with the electrical union while working full-time, gaining hands-on experience, and obtaining certifications that built a strong foundation in safety and field practices.

He later spent time in the IT field, which helped him to develop problem-solving skills, client relationships, and a broader technical perspective. Ultimately, however, he was drawn back to the electrical industry, where he’s continued to build on that foundation and grow into his current role.

“Starting out in the field and through my apprenticeship experience, I developed an understanding of installation practices, job-site challenges, and the importance of proper planning,” he said. “That background has been critical in my role today, allowing me to approach projects from both a field and management perspective as I coordinate work from estimating through execution.”

He joined B&B Electrical Systems in early 2024 as an estimator and later moved into a project manager role. He is now involved in the full lifecycle of a project and enjoys seeing a project go from drawings to reality during installation.

“Being involved from the early stages through execution and watching everything come together is very rewarding,” he said. “I also enjoy the fast-paced nature of the work and the variety of projects I’m involved in. No two days are the same, which keeps things fresh and constantly engaging.”

Currently, he’s involved with the installation of a new motor control center at a mine site and projects within the natural gas sector. Looking ahead, he sees himself in an operations role overseeing a specific office or potentially owning and operating an electrical contracting business. He said he’s motivated by the opportunity to lead teams, drive projects from a higher level, and contribute to the overall growth and success of a company.

“By combining field knowledge, project experience, and a stronger business mindset, I’m working toward positioning myself for a long-term leadership role in the industry,” he said.
