Heavy-Duty EVs Put New Pressure on the Electrical Grid
As fleets move toward electric Class 8 trucks and megawatt-scale charging, the challenge increasingly shifts from vehicle technology to electrical infrastructure. A new Endeavor Business Intelligence survey finds that most industry stakeholders don't believe local grids are prepared for widespread heavy-duty EV charging, with transformers, substations, utility service upgrades and grid capacity emerging as major concerns. The survey found that 65% of respondents identified limited grid capacity as a barrier to deploying megawatt charging systems, while 49% cited the cost of electrical upgrades.
