Research Begins to Develop 3D-Printed Lighting

DOE-funded project will explore 3D-printing solid-state lighting luminaires.

The Troy, N.Y.-based Lighting Research Center (LRC), part of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, recently partnered with Eaton Corp. to develop a fully 3D-printed, LED-integrated luminaire as part of a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). In particular, the research will focus on 3D printing technology as it applies to solid-state lighting (SSL).
