ABB has introduced ReliaHome Flex, a modular residential energy management system designed to help homeowners and builders add high-demand electric appliances without costly utility or panel service upgrades. Compatible with any brand of load center and suitable for both retrofit and new construction projects, the system combines a central Hub and circuit-level Controllers that communicate over a secure mesh network independent of home Wi-Fi to balance loads and prevent overloads. Controllers can be installed along branch circuits in minutes, without requiring access to the main panel, and manage single- or dual-pole loads up to 60A. Through the ReliaHome app, users gain real-time and historical energy visibility, notifications, and customizable automations to better manage consumption and connected devices such as EV chargers, water heaters, HVAC systems, and induction cooktops. Owners of EVs and battery systems will also benefit from the integration capabilities of ReliaHome Flex, which will allow them to better control their EV charging output and optimize the runtime of their battery backup.
