    Oscar Gomez
    Job Title: Operations Manager/Partner
    Company: Global Diversified Voltage, Inc.
    Location: Los Angeles
    Age: 28
    Years on the Job: 6
Interests: Reading, playing sports, and volunteering to help reinforce the benefits of higher education to low-income youth

Oscar Gomez became inspired to pursue a career in the engineering field after realizing engineers present solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems.

“Through electricity, innovation through technology has been made possible,” Gomez says. “Electricity offers tremendous opportunities to improve daily life, and humanity cannot think of a world without it.”

To help power America’s homes and businesses, Gomez became a first-generation college graduate by earning his engineering degree from California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) in 2013. He then pursued a master’s degree in engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) — all while working on a construction management certificate through UCLA’s extension.

Gomez, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, first became interested in engineering through his math and science teachers at Wilson High School in East Los Angeles. To fulfill his dream, he is working as the operations manager and managing partner of Global Diversified Voltage. In this role, he oversees electrical design & construction, finances, scheduling, scope of work, and management.

“I solve field problems and ensure personnel at our construction sites and at the company are operating at full capacity,” Gomez says.

While it can be challenging to coordinate and collaborate with other trades on a project, the effort is essential to the construction and engineering process, he adds.

“Electricity is one of the many systems that are part of an overall project,” he says. “It brings great joy to see the final product brought to life.”
