Explanation: The 2023 NEC stated that the branch circuit overcurrent device and conductors were to be sized at 125% of the rating of the water heater. It was unclear if this was the final branch circuit conductors or if it also applied to service and feeder conductors. The new requirement in rhe 2026 NEC clearly makes it a continuous load and will require the appropriate adjustments to feeders and service conductors as well.
