On Day 1 of the NECA Show in Las Vegas, the EC&M editorial staff stopped by the ABB booth to honor its TRAFCOM transformer condition monitoring solution for winning the silver award (second runner-up) in this year's EC&M Product of the Year competition. Representing the Metering & Monitoring Equipment category, this product delivers condition monitoring for any power or distribution transformer regardless of brand, type, or age.

This universal, non-invasive solution installs magnetically in less than 15 min. with minimal downtime, immediately providing continuous real-time data, predictive maintenance insights, and early fault detection. Monitoring ambient temperature, humidity, surface temperature, magnetic fields, vibration, and partial discharges allows users to maximize uptime, extend transformer life, and optimize maintenance planning.
"This is an exciting moment for us," said Omar Ibrahim, Global Product Manager at ABB. "It’s so interesting for the customer to see a small box that's able to provide this level of measurements and KPIs for a transformer."
After hearing the Product of the Year competition winner results, Product Marketing Director Javier Lopez said the ABB team was very thrilled. "We were very excited -- not only because this is a new product that we brought into our portfolio of services, but also because it actually plays an integral role for preventive maintenance that was outside the traditional way of looking at the breaker or switchgear that's really interesting on the transformer."
This year’s competition featured products introduced to the market between Jan. 1, 2025 and Dec. 31, 2025. A hand-picked panel of judges narrowed down the 144 entries to 35 category winners for the first phase of the competition. These category winners were then narrowed down to our three finalists through an online poll available to EC&M readers, who cast their votes to determine the three award-winning products.
