Lukas Rousseau followed his older brother and cousin’s lead by attending Whittier Tech High School in Haverhill, Mass. He enrolled in the electrical, carpentry, and plumbing program, but wound up selecting electrical.

During his senior year, he participated in a co-op with Piquette and Howard Electrical Services (P&H Electric), where he started in the pre-fab shop. After graduating, he was hired full-time with P&H and attended night school at P&H University after work. Currently, he’s studying for his master’s license and attending night school at Whittier Tech.

“My training has helped me understand that the industry is constantly changing, and learning new ways to do things is the best way to stay ahead,” he said.

As a foreman on an electrical project, he is responsible for handling paperwork, assigning area leads to tasks and priorities, coordinating with general contractors, and laying out and pre-planning work for the following weeks.

“My favorite part of my current role is being able to help apprentices learn and lead them down the right path,” he said. “The most challenging part of my current role is time management and being able to understand what tasks take precedence over others and trying to find the most time-efficient way to solve problems.”

To improve productivity and streamline tasks, he and the other team members are working off of iPads to navigate prints and the 3D model and using other tools to keep the drawings up to date or lay out the work effectively on the job site. In the future, he hopes to become a foreman at the company and take on different roles and opportunities.

“My goals are to continue to take on more responsibilities and keep growing and learning as the trade and tools evolve,” he said. “I'm thankful especially to those who have offered me responsibility and have helped me grow.”
