What’s Wrong Here? Hint: Ragged, Rotten, and Rusty

Think you know how this installation violates the NEC?

Hint: Ragged, rotten, and rusty.

I spotted this mess of wiring for some bridge lighting. The bottom of the junction box is rusted away, and the wires are pulled out and dangling out of the box. There is a Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit (LFMC) and another metal raceway on the bottom left of the box that are no longer connected to the box because the corrosion has eaten away the box so badly. The missing box cover is a violation of Sec. 314.25. The lack of mechanical or bonding/grounding connection between the metal raceways and the box is a violation of several Code Sections including Sec. 250.4(A)(3), (A)(4), and (A)(5), and Sec. 300.10. The LFMC does not appear to be properly supported and secured in accordance with Sec. 350.30. Many of the support clips for the RMC raceways have rusted away leaving the raceways without securing/supporting as required by Sec. 344.30. I think it’s time for a “do over” for this rusty mess of raceways and wiring.
