Hint: That’s a wrap!

The installer of this outdoor receptacle box made a good effort to prevent corrosion from deteriorating the metal raceways. Using tape wrap or shrink wrap is a good option to protect metal raceways from corrosion. Bitumastic coatings, zinc-rich paints, and epoxy-based resins are also available as supplemental protection options for metal raceways. Using PVC-coated conduit is another viable option too.

The problems I see here are the types of covers used for these receptacles. Section 406.9(B)(1) requires outlet box hoods used in these applications to be identified as “extra duty” rated. While these “bubble covers” may be weatherproof with an attachment plug cap inserted into the receptacle, they are not “extra duty” rated covers. Extra duty type covers have sturdier hinges and are better able to withstand the rigors of frequent use without breaking. Any 15A and 20A, 125V and 250V receptacles installed here must be listed and identified as weather resistant type.
