Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump Tariffs

New court ruling has implications for the electrical industry

As reported by Power & Motion, "In a 6-3 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the tariffs put in place by the Trump Administration. The court ruled that the President exceeded his authority and taxes such as tariffs require the authorization of Congress."

Tariff uncertainty has had an impact on the electrical industry in 2025 by driving up supply chain costs, increasing project expenses, and disrupting planning and investment. Read more about the impacts in this article by Tom Zind.

In last year's special report on the Top 40 electrical design firms, More than 85% of the Top 40 survey respondents expected tariffs to negatively impact their businesses. That concern was tied to higher materials prices and potential shortages, which had potential to change the cost equation for many construction and design projects.
